Charity As It Can Be Found Around

I am concerned with the world as it is. And, still, I've seen and witnessed some great acts of kindness and charity in the news and locally each day. As I hope and believe that charity is the greatest thing out there and that compassion is one of the most desirable traits in a wife I would love to share some of these AWESOME stories with you. According to the scriptures "charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever" (Moroni 7:47).

"Nothing you do makes much of a difference if you do not have charity. You can speak with tongues, have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries, and possess all knowledge; even if you have the faith to move mountains, without charity it won't profit you at all....

"Without charity—or the pure love of Christ—whatever else we accomplish matters little. With it, all else becomes vibrant and alive.

"When we inspire and teach others to fill their hearts with love, obedience flows from the inside out in voluntary acts of self-sacrifice and service" (Elder Joseph B Wirthlin, Ensign, Nov 2007, 28–31).

In my own community I am aware of a recently divorced man who visited with and cried with another man who also recently divorced and encouraged him to move forward.

I know a recently homeless man--he's a vegan and confused about religion and its role. He's had a hard life and one of the members of my ward welcomed him into his home for a week.

In Las Vegas I know of a couple families who received help from church members paying to turn on their lights and helping them visit the doctor's office.

My own mother helps teach a child to read during evenings at home. I read his carefully written thank you card and it was AMAZING. He called her one of his favorite people and thanked her and mentioned how fun it was to be with her. She really is fun to be around! I am not kidding.

My wife's charity is radiating and splendid. Everyone at work likes her. Our home teachers and friends all like her. My Meservy family reminds me often that I lucked out with her--she plans and humbly asks my opinion, she sweetly gives my kisses whenever I need them, she always helps me get up and get going in the morning--very patiently, she dreams of a future family and a glorious existence somewhere in the distance. She even allows me to spend or donate money when I feel things are important. It is a beautiful thing to see our love grow and our mutual respect develop.
